The History of Beach Street, Daytona Beach, Florida, Then and Now.
In the early 1800s, sugar mill plantations, wild animals, snakes, gators and sand were the only things along the Halifax River. By1865, the area called Beach Street in Daytona Beach started collecting pioneers. The Halifax River was the place to settle. In 1870, Matthias Day arrived from Ohio with dreams of building a town. He laid out streets, Beach Street in particular, and the historic street was born.
