The Halifax Historical Museum
The Halifax Historical Museum is a true gem located in Historic Daytona Beach’s original commercial district on the mainland side of the Halifax River.
It is worth the trip just to see the one hundred year old neoclassical architecture of its home, a former bank, and the original teller’s window. A mural of Old Florida wildlife graces one wall and a stained-glass ceiling gives the place a Beaux Arts glow. A historic Racing Zone and handmade surf boards are fascinating.
The eclectic collection includes household items from the Spanish and British periods, plantation artifacts, tools, possessions of past residents (even a ball gown worn at Lincoln’s inauguration), thousands of historic photographs and, naturally, model racecars. Saturday children 12 and under are free. Thursdays are free, but your donation is always appreciated. Gift shop admission is free.
