This fun annual tradition features floats, authentic Mardi Gras costumes and beads for spectators. For parade or pet entry information, go to https://www.kreweofamalee.com/. The parade and parking are free!  The parade is presented by the Krewe of Amalee, Inc., a 501(C) 3 organization that supports nonprofit organizations in West Volusia and has donated over $550,000 to local organizations benefiting the arts, children and animals. Dog Costume Contest Registration 8 a.m. – 9:15 a.m.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Museum of Arts and Science- Saturday, February 22, 2020, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Bring the whole family for a full day of activities as we celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This large event will have a full array of expert female scientific speakers and presenters from various disciplines such as astronomy, biology, environmental science, chemistry, and engineering. There will be guest speakers in the Lohman Planetarium, as well as speakers and demonstrations throughout the Museum. 

Seating for our guest lectures is limited and is first-come, first-served. 

Admission: Free for members or with paid museum admission.

Museum of Arts and Sciences Continuing Exhibits 

Continuing Exhibits: The Root Family Museum, featuring Coca-Cola© memorabilia and other Americana; the Cuban Foundation Collection; Frischer Sculpture Garden; Anderson C. Bouchelle Gallery for International Decorative Arts; Kim A. Klancke, M.D., and Marsha L. Klancke Environmental Education Complex in Tuscawilla Preserve; Schulte Gallery of Chinese Art; Helene B. Roberson Visible Storage Building; The Giant Ground Sloth; The Charles and Linda Williams Children’s Museum, the first hands-on science center in Volusia County, featuring more than 9,000 square feet of interactive exhibits.

Museum Hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Monday – Saturday) and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Sunday).   Museum admission is $12.95 adults; $6.95 children 6‐17; $10.95 seniors and students; members and children 5 and under are free. 

One planetarium show is included with the purchase of your admission ticket to the Museum of Arts & Sciences. Additional Planetarium Shows: $5 adults, $3 children. Monday – Friday Showtimes are 1 – 4 p.m.; Saturday Showtimes are 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. & Sunday Showtimes are 12 – 4 p.m.

Planetarium and laser shows daily. Parking is free.

Admission is FREE for Volusia County residents the first Tuesday of each month. MOAS is fully accessible to the handicapped.

Monday – Saturday: Free tours of the Ormond Beach retirement home of John D. Rockefeller in addition to the beautiful Rockefeller Gardens, (call for hours). Learn about the history of the mansion and grounds. Visit special displays including Boy Scouts of America historical memorabilia and a collection of Hungarian festival costumes and artifacts.

Lohman Planetarium- Museum of Arts and Science- Saturday, February 22, 2020, 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Continue celebrating International Day of Women and Girls in Science with Carl Sagan’s Contact. Radio astronomer Dr. Ellie Arroway (Jodie Foster) searches for extraterrestrial intelligence, receives a signal from space and is chosen for first contact. This film will be displayed in 16:9 aspect ratio on the planetarium dome in high definition. Popcorn and snacks will be available at the concession stand. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the event start time. Advanced purchase of tickets is recommended by calling the Museum at 386-255-0285.

Following the film, from 8:00-9:00 p.m. we will move outside (weather permitting) for a telescope viewing of the Crab Nebula pulsar, a rare celestial object that strongly emits both radio waves and visible light.
