Congo River & Krispy Kreme

Congo River Golf signAs a frequent visitor to the Daytona Beach area, I am always on the lookout for fun ways to enjoy all that the city has to offer. As recent college graduates, my friends and I decided a beach day would be the perfect way to begin our summer. We initially planned to lie on the sand but when I came across Congo River Golf, we immediately made a pit stop for a more active type of fun in the sun.

As we walked up, I realized Congo River is not a typical golf course. I had expected to see a few Girls in a caveholes and maybe a river running through the center, but instead I was greeted with something that could have been plucked straight out of a tropical jungle. The course is spotted with caves, waterfalls, and greenery that make you forget you are just steps off A1A. Congo River also has live alligators adding to the tropical feel. The beauty of the course definitely allows for many photo opportunities, which my friends and I took full advantage of.

Couples GolfingAlthough the course was beautiful upon entering, I was still expecting the game to drag on like most mini golf games are. Surprisingly, the course was laid out in a way that kept our attention and made the game go by at the perfect rate. Every hole was decorated in a slightly different way, making us feel like we were on a journey through the jungle.

The jungle feeling of the course also provided a great backdrop for the “Exploration Game”; a scavenger hunt that involves finding pieces that are hidden along the course. As we traveled through the course and hunted for hidden spears and totem poles, we were able to find everything that was hidden. In addition to the confidence boost this gave us, the scavenger hunt also made the golf game more competitive. Although the game became intense, I managed to get a few hole-in-ones.

Sadly, those hole-in-ones weren’t enough to keep me out of last place once the game ended. Even though my golf game could have been better, the tropical feeling and fun atmosphere of Congo River Golf made for a great day in Daytona Beach.

Krispy Kreme Doughnut SignThe day got even better when we made an impromptu stop at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts on the way home. As a frequent visitor to Daytona, I think Krispy Kreme is one of the best places to go if you are looking for a sweet treat. To make things even sweeter, the “Hot Doughnuts Now” sign was on, signaling that the best doughnuts were available. We quickly rushed in and made our Doughnutselections. I left with a hot glazed doughnut as well as my other favorite; glazed chocolate cake.

Daytona Beach is home to a wonderful place to lie by the sand and play in the water, but if you need a break from the beach, a trip to Congo River Golf and Krispy Kreme will offer fun for everyone.
